Although Autumn is definitely in the air there is enough of Summer left to still drop the car window when taking a drive through the hills and feel the warm breeze blowing through your hair…

…from work the turn off from the freeway at Stirling sees me wind through Aldgate, Mylor and Echunga, taking in lush and cool exotic plantings, native bushland and the all time favourite grass tree, ancient red gum lined creeks, golden paddocks and fat cows, vineyards and small old villages…
While the slightly longer distance to work is one of the only down sides of living in the hills it is also, for me, one of the bonuses. The first 20 minutes of my drive in the morning is just about the best part of the day, maybe even better than the drive home (oh god did I just say that :-))…In summer the mornings are mild and bright, with a blood orange sun rising above the horizon ushering in a scotching South Australian Summer’s day; in Autumn the sun starts to sleep in but the freshness of the morning has something about it, be it the smell or the thought that the 4 day Easter weekend is just around the corner 😉 and the trees turn a variety of golden shades; In Winter (code for extra brrrrrrrrrrr in the hills…) the mist rises between the valleys as the sun, now rising earlier with the hibernation of day light savings, warms the cool earth – there’s nothing like the mist rising from a valley dam with cows grazing on the lush winter grass; and in Spring the mornings start to ever so slowly (and I mean EVER so slowly) warm and the smells of spring waft from late winter/early spring blooms, the hills are full of flowering cheery blossoms and blooming bulbs…
…Just some thoughts to share with you on this lovely warm Autumn’s day…

Good that someone is positive and upbeat about the change of season…
I am NOT looking forward to winter in the Hills, but maybe I should try to see it differently (through your words!)
So well done for being positive about the Hills getting colder very soon!
