While many people base their blogs on their renovations/improvements/extensions etc, which is of course completely fabulous, I originally hadn’t planned to feature ours all that often…but on viewing some of my favourite blogs I started to think that it might be nice to share our journey in a little more detail than planned…
…So on that note, I would like to introduce you to our 1967, formerly asbestos clad, former farmhouse…
…sorry that was a mouth full, but it’s no longer clad in asbestos and it hasn’t acted as a farmhouse in many years, we do get the best of both worlds however, it looks like we have land but we don’t have to worry about the upkeep 🙂
The house was originally a traditional three bedroom, living, bathroom, laundry and kitchen house and then at a slightly later date (not too much later as the wonderful full wall louvre windows in the extension you see to the rear of the house scream of the 1970s) a pretty basic barely-weatherproof extension was added to the rear gaining, well, not much…a fairly useless lean-to, a kinda walk in robe like room with mould and, the most practical, a very basic laundry which was shared with all the spiders and mice under the sun 😦
So with a bit of muscle power, the ever so useful carpenter builder hubby made light work of demolishing the old and building the new…

The footing are down - to the left you see the footings for the deck and from front to back you see the ensuite and laundry plumbing poking up and the area that will be the living room opened up to the kitchen which is in the existing house

The outside is clad and the cedar doors and windows are in shadowed by the half painted pergola (sorry for the change of angle), I will show detail of the deck at a later date once there is furniture, plants etc gracing it
I hope you’ve enjoyed the quick run through of the rise of our extension, my next renos post will show the transition behind those new walls.
Bye for now 🙂
